Smoke & Barrel, DC #2

I hadn't been to Smoke & Barrel, the barbeque joint in Adams Morgan, in a couple of years so I thought it would be great to hit their brunch on a Saturday morning. We showed up bright and early and got a seat by the window.

Smoke & Barrel is in the space formerly known as Asylum and still owned by the same owners, but a completely different concept. They are all about BBQ and are surprisingly vegan-friendly. Their brunch menu features a bunch of vegan offerings such as Vegan Wings, Huevos Rancheros, French Toast, and my favorite, the Sweet Potato Oat Burger. I was in the mood to try something new so I ordered the Chili Cheese Tofu Scramble.

As we waited for our dishes, we had mimosas too!

The service was quite slow that morning so once the food was served, we were super hungry. What I didn't realize is that the Chili Cheese Tofu Scramble was the same one Asylum served years ago! It was tofu scramble served with veggie chili, home fries, and Texas toast. It was all pretty good aside from the overdone toast. I didn't blow me away, but it was a fine, hearty brunch.

My friend got my old fave, the Sweet Potato Oat Burger and she loved it.

I also slathered my home fries in their three homemade hot sauces for some extra spice. I liked the Smoked Jalapeno and Chipotle Cayenne the best.

Smoke & Barrel is a solid brunch spot with good prices. Just don't expect fast service.
